I joined Croxley late in 2016. Previously I had been working in an insurance start-up, and was looking for a career change.
What I liked about the job was that it offered me a pathway to credit and accounts management. Also, Croxley the company, it’s a really New Zealand company with a very well-known brand.
Making a career change has been exciting and challenging, and I must say I have had fantastic support from the people here. That’s the thing I like most, the people. With Croxley for 29 years, Allan has seen the stationery business transformed. When he first became Christchurch Warehouse Manager at the tender age of 24, the warehouse was a mere 10,000 square feet. Now well over 40,000 square feet, the Distribution Centre houses more than 7,500 SKUs.
“Back then we had no computers, we memorised everything,” he says. “Now we’re totally technology-driven, it’s fantastic.”
For Allan, the company’s investment in technology and systems, and keeping people up to date with them, has been very rewarding. His career has been full of challenge, and has allowed him to grow on many levels.

Allan believes Croxley is a very good place to start a career, and he says the ‘family culture’ encourages people to stay. In fact, he’s had no change of personnel in his Distribution Centre team for nine years.
“Let’s say we’re a stable company. Very proud of that.”
When I took on my role in September 2016, the big thing for me was the amazing range of products here. I had worked in fashion stationery, but this was just something else. I remember going to my interview and I had no idea there was so much here. It blew me away.
I was also looking for career progression. I now deal with Office Max and Grocery, so I’ve got my hands full. I’ve been here eight months and I’ve learnt so much. Part of that is the people, they’re very supportive, and the culture generally, it suits me.
